Monolaurin: The Origin and Lauricidin®

Monolaurin in the sn-1 position was originally discovered in human milk, where as a naturally occurring medium-chain fatty acid it provides specific nutritional benefits to infants. Lauricidin® is identical to this form of monolaurin, but it is not extracted from breast milk. Instead, it is produced from coconut oil, also in the sn-1 position, and moreover it is >95% pure.

The Difference Between Coconut Oil, Lauric Acid and Lauricidin®

Coconut oil is extracted from the flesh of mature coconuts (Cocos nucifera) and contains approximately 40%-60% lauric acid, a 12-carbon medium-chain saturated fatty acid (C12:0 triglyceride). Lauricidin® is made by combining lauric acid from coconut oil with a vegetable glycerol, resulting in a pure ester known as monolaurin (monoglyceride). Monolaurin is also found in other plant sources, such as Saw Palmetto and Bitter Melon. However, the lauric acid in coconut oil is inactive in our bodies because we don't have the enzyme needed to break down coconut oil into the monoester of lauric acid. Lauricidin® is present in this unique ester form. It is natural, non-toxic and suitable for daily use. In its natural state, Lauricidin® is widely applicable.

Tips for Beginners

• Do not chew the pellets or ingest them in powder form.
• Take Lauricidin® with or after a meal. The mini-pellets can be placed in the mouth and swallowed with water or juice. Do not take them with hot liquids.
• Start by taking small amounts of Lauricidin® daily, three times a day. This can be just a single pellet or a few pellets.
• Gradually increase the dose to a 1/4 blue scoop. If you experience mild symptoms, you can reduce the amount you take.
• Continue to take Lauricidin® in small amounts daily until you reach your maintenance level. A typical maintenance level is 3000 mg (1 scoop) three times a day.
